Adv. Imran Ali

Imran Ali is a practicing lawyer based in New Delhi. He is a member of the Bar Council of Delhi and the Bar Council of India. His areas of expertise include Criminal Law, Family Law, Writs, Media Law and Human Rights Law. He has been regularly appearing before the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India as well as before various High Courts of the country. He has a passion for criminal trials. He has filed and appeared in many Public Interest Litigation (PIL) cases before the Delhi High Court and the Supreme Court of India.

He is a legal advisor to various NGOs working on social and human rights issues. He has been a member of the Tihar Jail Visiting Panel appointed by the National Commission for Protection of Children under the order of the Hon'ble High Court of Delhi. He was the member of the Indian coalition of NGOs, which received third the “Juvenile Justice without Borders” International Award- 2014 presented by International Juvenile Justice Observatory (IJJO), Belgium. He has drafted a Compendium on “Guidelines for Media Reporting on Children” for the Delhi Commission for Protection of Child Rights. He has produced and directed many documentary films on various social, political, legal and human rights issues.

Besides having a degree in Law, he holds a Masters in Political Science and Mass Communication. He also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Media Law from NALSAR. Before joining the legal profession he has been associated with national media outlets. Furthermore, he has taught in various media institutes including AJKMCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia and GGSIP University, New Delhi.

He also takes up pro bono cases for those are unable to afford the services of a lawyer.
